Salicylic Acid Plaster
Salicylic acid is a very effective agent for removing thickened skin, and it is for this reason that salicylic acid plaster may be very helpful for treating the thickened areas produced by the wart virus. This medication is available over-the-counter and comes in 17% or 40% concentrations. The plaster vehicle is quite useful as the plaster sheet can be cut to the exact shape of the wart and applied every day. The plaster sheet serves as an occlusive surface thereby further pushing the medicine into the wart and increasing its effectiveness.Salicylic acid plaster may be used in combination with a variety of other wart treatments such as liquid nitrogen cryotherapy or Aldara®. A new plaster sheet should be applied to each wart every day, and a bandage or tape may be used to keep the medicine in place. Occasionally, irritiation may develop. If the irritation is bothersome, a holiday from medication application is advised. Discuss this irritation with your physician.
