Vitamin E

Vitamin E (alpha tocopherol) is primarily found in vegetables and cereals primarily via diet. It is a primary component of the top layer of the skin and functions as an anti-oxidant. It is currently used to as an adjunct for protection against the effects of sun-damage. Newer studies are attempting to show and improvement of atopic dermatitis with oral Vitamin E. It is also believed that the effects of Vitamin E are enhanced by the addition of vitamin C, coenzyme Q10 (ubiquinol-10), and glutathione. The use of Vitamin E to enhance protection of sunscreens has recently been established. Side effects of Vitamin E are primarily limited to irritation and allergic skin reactions.
