Benzoyl Peroxide
Benzoyl peroxide primarily works by creating toxic oxygen radicals that destroy bacteria and limit inflammation. It is an ideal acne-fighting agent because there is currently no known bacterial resistance to benzoyl peroxide. Despite this fact, benzoyl peroxide is rarely used alone, and can most often be found in combination with salicylic acid or topical antibiotics. As it is found in many over-the-counter products, it is a great agent as a first-attempt to control mild acne or folliculitis. The main side effect of benzoyl peroxide is excessive drying or flaking of the skin.
