Alpha-Hydroxy Acids
Alpha-Hydroxy Acids (AHA) are seen in many compounds because of their versatility in the treatment of acne, dry skin, superficial scarring, skin darkening, anti-aging, and the production of clean, fresh-looking skin. Examples of AHA include Glycolic acid, Lactic acid, Tartaric acid, and Citric acid. Through their low pH, each of these acids is able to induce superficial peeling and exfoliation. Interestingly, these compounds also function as moisturizers when used in lotions and creams. Over time with continual use, an increase in collagen production may be seen.
