Cysts
Cysts are benign growths in the top layers of the skin that present as firm well-outlined nodules with a central pore on any part of the body except for the palms and soles. They develop as a result of pore occlusion leading to a collection of dead skin cells forming a ball. The cyst may occasionally drain cheesy, white, smelly material; it may also become inflamed either by attempts to squeeze the content or by invasion of bacteria.
The treatment of cysts is surgical. The cyst with the cyst wall must be excised to prevent recurrence. Prevention of cysts is primarily accomplished by daily use of benzoyl peroxide, salicylic acid, or prescription retinoid products such as Retin-A
